DJ Ethos is the man. Really. Who else can command the 1’s and 2’s with such calculated force that the legendary KRS-1 had to stop a show for one minute just to give props to the sonic artistry Ethos was creating on the stage with him? DJ Ethos, that’s who.

DJ Ethos’s talent stretches far beyond the turntables he mans behind Jroz. Born in Michoacan, Mexico, Ethos moved to Los Angeles when he was 12 years old. There, he discovered the culture of hip-hop and developed an immense love for breaking and graffiti; in 1997, he began cultivating his talent for turntables. After a few location changes spanning the U.S. and Canada, Ethos eventually landed himself back in Cali, where he has been rockin’ the turntables ever since.

From the jazz infused hip-hop of his other crew, Semitotics, to the raw underground sound of Jroz, Ethos has been setting the standard of performance for the underground by shining onstage with the likes of KRS-1 and Ozomatli. KRS-1 probably said it best, when giving props to Ethos in 2004: “Now that’s a DJ.”
